Does anyone know the value of a vintage/still new in package Schrade Walden 825RB pocket knife?

Posted by admin     Category: vintage knife

This knife has never been sharpened or carried. Its still new in the clear tube like container. Usually they come in a paper box, but this one is clear. Also has the original paper work to. Im just curious how much it would be worth.

Thanks ahead of time for your answers.

Need help looking up price on vintage knives?

Posted by admin     Category: vintage knife

Ok this is a long shot but my mother in law called me she wants to price a set of 40 year old steak knives and cutlery set she got when she got married. It is Gerber brand she tells me. When I search Gerber knives I get modern sport knives, obviously a different thing. How can I look up item like this to find a price range for her??

Is a butterfly knife a regular folding knife or a gravity knife?

Posted by admin     Category: folding knife

For years I have been owning butterfly knives also known as Balisong knives.I understand that there are restrictions on these particular knives in different jurisdictions;what makes a dual handle folding knife any more lethal than a regular folding knife, this type of edged instrument doesnot constitute a "gravity knife" by whatever means I can see, does anyone have any input on this issue?

There are many places that they are illegal. In some places just owning them can get you in trouble and in others carrying them. It is sad that people who have no real idea about knives and their uses make the laws based on irrational fears and bad information. The American Knife and Tool Institute is always fighting for our rights to use and carry our tools and knives. If you get a chance check them out. Different places classify knives differently and it makes it very hard to follow the law at times. It would be a good idea to check your state and local laws to make sure you are not in violation. Sometimes the definitions used to describe knives are so far off it is scary. A Butterfly or Balisong as it should be referred to is a kinetic opening knife and requires a distinct and precise series of movements to open. It is not a gravity knife in truth but many jurisdictions refer to them as such other jurisdictions have a category just for them.. Any knife can be opened one handed for the most part with just a little practice and being able to open a knife one handed is sometimes a very useful if not lifesaving ability. Spyderco Knives can be opened with one hand due to their Spyder-hole in the blade(pat.) This in no way makes the knife any more or less dangerous but it sure does make it a lot easier to use when your hands are full. If the laws in your area are poor may I suggest trying to change them with education and honesty. The funny thing is most people do not even understand the use of a balisong and if they did they would understand that they actually have many non-lethal movements in self-defense. The AKTI has a web sight and is always happy to help educate and legislate to make the knife laws sane and safe for all of us. I hope this helps and if I can be of any further help please let me know. Best Wishes and Happy Holidays to all.

What are the folding knife laws on maryland?

Posted by admin     Category: folding knife

Am i legally allowed to carry a folding knife? If so, are there size restrictions?

A good rule of thumb is the blade of the knife should not be longer than palm of your hand (going sideways).

By measurement that can be 3-5 inches, but that varies by state. Not being from Maryland, I'm sorry I cant be more specific.

But the "palm" guideline holds true in NY where I'm from.

Of course any knife used for work, like a construction blade in a toolbox is OK.

What is a really good folding knife for the outdoors?

Posted by admin     Category: folding knife

What knife would fit this profile?

-Folding
-Locking
-For the outdoors
-Pocket clip
-tough and dependable
-Made by a respected knife company

Thank you

Please tell me the model and brand name you are recommending.

A Buck 110 Folding Hunter would be a great choice. Only it lacks a pocket clip. Another great knife would be an older Case Sharkstooth model. (Very similar to the Buck 110.)

I have an antique sword from World War I that has mold like black spots growing on the blade. What are they?

Posted by admin     Category: antique swords

The spots are black and vary in size, but the sword kind of stinks too. I believe it is a German Officer's sword. Can anyone tell me what these are and how to eliminate them and restore this antique?

It's finish is probably deteriorating. I would say find an antique dealer who specializes in that era, maybe they can help you.

Wanted to know who sells or manufactures antique sword handles?

Posted by admin     Category: antique swords

I have a few cavalry swords from the late 1800's that were manufactured in Germany (Solengen) for the Uruguay Army (Republica del Uruguay). Unfortunately they are missing the handle so I wanted to find someone who sells or manufactures antique sword handles.

Thanks.

HI. You might try antique sword forums and ask there, a collector would know. I believe you would have to have one custom made, though you might find a collector in a forum with your exact missing piece!

Where can I get an antique sword appraised in Saint Louis?

Posted by admin     Category: antique swords

I recently got an antique sword from my grandma, and had questions about it, one being some lettering on the sword. I am not sure how old it is, but it is at least 100 years old. Does anyone know where in STL I could get it appraised?

Take a piece of rice paper really thin and with a #2 pencil place the paper over the letters and then cover the paper with carbon where the letters are engraved they should be lighter or darker I don’t remember It has been so many years since I did this. Then call the library and see how many books they have on Knives or Swords makers, And the Saint Louis Main Library should Have a lot, or at least they will be able to get you any book in print form inter-library loan from any where in the USA within five days, and that means any book in print even if they have to get it from the library of Congress.
